SM Entertainment has disclosed new developments in its legal action against online harassment targeting NCT member Jisung, including a ₩5 million court fine and a separate criminal complaint involving hundreds of alleged malicious posts.
In a statement issued on October 19, the agency said a court of first instance found that an individual’s conduct, dating back to 2022, constituted defamation under South Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act and criminal insult.
The defendant was fined ₩5 million. However, SM confirmed that the individual has appealed and that a date has been scheduled for the appellate ruling. The judgment is therefore not final.
Separately, SM disclosed that it recently filed a criminal complaint against an individual accused of publishing 462 malicious posts about Jisung online.
That complaint includes alleged violations of the Information and Communications Network Act, insult and threats. The investigation remains ongoing, and no conviction has been announced in that case.
The agency also outlined broader legal action against individuals accused of conduct causing fear or anxiety to the artist, including complaints involving alleged stalking and other offences.
SM said it continues to collect evidence of defamation, false information, insults and personal attacks across platforms including X, YouTube and SpinSpin.
The company reiterated that it intends to pursue legal action without settlement or leniency, including further complaints against individuals who continue harmful conduct following legal proceedings.
The appeal and the separate criminal investigation remain unresolved.
