In an industry often associated with established agencies and carefully structured idol lineups, independent K-pop project NewKin is taking a different approach.
Created and led by producer PRIN, the Seoul-based project brings together artists through a rotating-member system designed to make room for different voices, experiences and creative perspectives. Its first lineup features PRIN, Juha and DAin.
Rather than maintaining a permanently fixed lineup, NewKin introduces new collaborators, known as Kins, across successive releases called Stages. PRIN remains the project’s central creative figure, with each Stage intended to expand its musical identity and the stories it tells.
At the heart of the concept is a question about belonging.
NewKin’s debut double single, [LOG IN: ERROR], explores a world in which individuality is treated as a malfunction. Drawing on webcore aesthetics, internet culture and electronic music, the project challenges the pressure to fit into a supposedly perfect system.
Its two songs approach that idea differently. Lead track “echo” combines bright, crystalline sounds with breakbeats to express confusion and disconnection, while “alone” builds from sparse instrumentation toward heavier rhythms, reflecting feelings of isolation.
Released digitally on September 11, the project is now preparing its first physical edition for November 11.
The physical release will arrive in separate echo and alone versions, alongside a two-edition set. Each version presents a different side of NewKin’s visual concept, extending the contrast established by the music.
But the physical release is also tied to another creative goal.
According to a November 2 announcement provided directly to BiasList, NewKin plans to produce and release a music video for “alone” if the first print run of 1,000 physical copies sells out.
The proposed initiative connects the group’s next visual production directly to fan participation, reflecting the practical realities of developing music independently.
That collaborative approach extends to the members’ creative contributions. PRIN and Juha are credited on the lyrics for “echo,” while Juha, DAin and PRIN contributed to the lyrics for “alone” alongside Choah. Juha also contributed to the choreography for “echo.”
For NewKin, the project is intended to be more than an unconventional lineup format. Its broader vision centers on individuality, acceptance and the possibility of finding belonging among people whose experiences differ.
With its November 11 physical release approaching, NewKin is looking to carry that vision into its next stage—one shaped by the artists behind the project and the listeners choosing to follow it.
