BTS member RM’s exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) has sold more than 66,000 tickets, marking a significant new milestone for the singer’s first major museum exhibition of his private art collection.
According to an October 24 report from The Guardian, advance ticket sales for RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me were six times higher than those of any previous exhibition at the museum.
The figures establish a new measure of the exhibition’s success beyond the extraordinary early interest surrounding its opening.
From Early Anticipation to Measurable Demand
When the exhibition opened on October 3, it had already generated substantial attention, including a 10,000-person preview waitlist and unusually strong interest in Korean art.
The latest ticket figures demonstrate how that anticipation has translated into demand for the exhibition itself.
Co-curated by RM alongside SFMOMA curators América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim, the exhibition brings together 142 works from RM’s personal collection and 36 works from the museum’s holdings.
The presentation places Korean modern and contemporary artists in conversation with international works, while RM contributes personal reflections through exhibition texts and an audio guide.
The response has extended beyond admission tickets. Merchandise associated with the exhibition initially sold out within approximately three hours, according to The Guardian.
A Boost for SFMOMA
The exhibition’s commercial success comes at an important time for the museum, which has faced financial challenges, including a reported $5 million deficit and workforce reductions last year.
The increased ticket demand has provided a welcome boost, although the financial impact has not been quantified sufficiently to establish that the exhibition has resolved the museum’s broader difficulties.
Importantly, the more than 66,000 tickets sold should not be confused with an independently verified count of completed visits.
For RM, the milestone demonstrates the growing reach of his involvement in Korean art beyond music and fandom, bringing substantial new attention to a major American cultural institution.
RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me remains on view in San Francisco through February 7, 2027.
