TEN Takes Creative Control With New Single ‘OUTWEST’

TEN has released OUTWEST, his first music project since co-founding the creative company ILLIMNT and a release that puts greater emphasis on his role behind the music.

Released September 4, OUTWEST contains two tracks: the title track “OUTWEST” and “IRL.” TEN is credited as a writer and composer on both songs.

“OUTWEST” blends hip-hop, tech house and R&B, continuing TEN’s tendency to move between genres rather than settle into a single musical lane. The accompanying music video extends the project’s dreamy, mysterious visual direction.

The second track, “IRL,” takes a more personal approach. The song is framed around TEN’s relationship with the community that has supported him throughout his decade-long career.

The release carries additional significance as TEN’s first project overseen from beginning to end since co-founding ILLIMNT. The company launched this year as a creative hub spanning music, visual art, fashion, original content and brand partnerships, giving TEN a larger role in directing his work beyond performance alone.

That expanded control is reflected in the credits. TEN participated in writing and composing both tracks, while producer Rabitt worked on “OUTWEST” and Austin Corona is among the credited writers and producers on “IRL.”

OUTWEST therefore functions as more than the beginning of another promotional cycle. It is the first clear look at what TEN’s solo work can become with greater control over the creative process surrounding it.
