A Seoul court has ordered Yu Jun Won to pay ₩685 million in damages in the long-running contract dispute that followed his departure from the FANTASY BOYS debut lineup.
The Seoul Central District Court’s 31st Civil Division issued its first-instance ruling on October 8 in a lawsuit brought by Boys Fantasy production company Phunky Studio, which had sought ₩3 billion in damages.
Yu finished first on MBC survival program Boys Fantasy in 2023 and was selected for the group that would become FANTASY BOYS. He ultimately did not join the group’s debut after disagreements emerged over contract terms, including revenue distribution.
The dispute subsequently moved into court. Yu sought an injunction to suspend the effect of an exclusive contract with Phunky Studio, but that request was rejected. His side has previously maintained that the parties signed a broadcasting agreement for Boys Fantasy but never finalized a formal exclusive contract after the program ended.
Following the October 8 ruling, Phunky Studio said the court recognized responsibility for Yu’s departure and breach of contract. The company said it considers the ₩685 million award insufficient compared with the damages it claims to have suffered and is reviewing whether to appeal.
No appeal has yet been confirmed as filed.
Yu signed with newly established agency Conti earlier this year and is preparing to debut as part of a new boy group.
