Los Angeles is giving BTS more than a welcome back.
The city has officially designated September 1–8 as “BTS Week,” coinciding with four sold-out ARIRANG world tour concerts at SoFi Stadium on September 1, 2, 5 and 6.
A formal proclamation ceremony was held at Los Angeles City Hall on August 31, with Mayor Karen Bass, City Council members, tourism officials and representatives from BigHit Music in attendance.
The celebration will become considerably more visible on September 1, when City Hall is illuminated in red — matching a key color associated with BTS’ fifth studio album, ARIRANG.
According to BigHit Music, the lighting is intended as an official welcome to BTS and the fans arriving in Los Angeles for the concerts.
The city’s recognition goes beyond the shows themselves.
Los Angeles officials highlighted BTS’ influence on global culture and the group’s role in connecting audiences across languages and communities. The City Council also recognized the group’s impact in opening doors for Korean and other Asian artists in the global music industry.
For BTS, Los Angeles carries some history.
This week’s concerts mark the group’s first return to SoFi Stadium in nearly five years, following four PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE – LA concerts in late 2021.
The Los Angeles dates also close the North American leg of the ARIRANG world tour, which began in Goyang in April and has since moved through stadiums across North America.
And Los Angeles isn’t the first stop to make BTS’ arrival an official civic occasion.
El Paso County in Texas, the state of Illinois and Toronto have all issued “BTS Week” or “BTS Day” recognitions around stops on the tour.
Taken together, those proclamations have become an unusual recurring feature of ARIRANG’s North American run: local governments treating a touring K-pop act’s arrival as something extending beyond the stadium itself.
In Los Angeles, that recognition now lasts eight days.
And for one night, even City Hall is joining the color scheme.
