The Boyz are moving forward under a new management structure following their contract dispute with One Hundred Label.
Newly established music label 78 Records announced September 14 that it will manage the group and unit activities of Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, Q, Sunwoo and Eric. Individual activities will continue through each member’s respective agency or personal arrangements.
The arrangement gives The Boyz a formal home for group activities after months of uncertainty surrounding their future together.
Nine members sought to terminate their exclusive contracts with One Hundred earlier this year, alleging unpaid settlement payments. In April, the Seoul Central District Court granted their request for an injunction suspending the contracts, clearing the way for the members to pursue activities outside the company.
The members subsequently announced in August that they had agreed to remain together as a nine-member group while signing separately with agencies for their individual careers. At the time, however, the label responsible for their collective activities had not been publicly identified.
78 Records now fills that role.
The newly incorporated label was established by entertainment-industry figures with longstanding ties to The Boyz. Korean reporting says its leadership includes personnel who worked with the group beginning with its casting and debut and through major career moments including Road to Kingdom and Kingdom: Legendary War. The company says it will support future group music, performances and content while also preparing to develop new artists.
New is not part of the nine-member configuration. He separately reached an agreement to terminate his One Hundred contract in August and is expected to pursue solo activities.
The result is an unusual split-management model for The Boyz: 78 Records becomes the home of the group itself, while the members retain separate representation for their individual careers.
